Recently I was invited to teach a  digital camera class for the Marin Society of Artists. They saw my website and thought my photo classes might be of interest to their members. I interviewed with two of their staff and explained my Live View approach to beginning digital photography.

A short time later I heard back from them and I began creating a beginning class on Creating Art with Your Digital Camera! It’s set to run as a three part class starting on July 21st. Check their web site for additional details or give me a call 415-246-7340. It should be fun – we’re doing a photoshoot and a group critique as part of the curriculum.

The MSA is also having a photo competition and show around the same time.Over the years I have entered a few shows and competitions. I’ve had mixed results. It’s not really my thing, but I do find the preparation a very useful and interesting process. Usually there is  theme, a few categories, and if it’s well done, a statement by the judge or judges on what they’re looking for.

The judge in this case said he was looking for different angles, perspectives, and viewpoints to project the photographer’s “self” into the image, of course I’m paraphrasing here. I submitted 3 images, and although none were accepted, the process of looking at my images as a self-critique to see if they might fit the criteria, was a great exercise. I got to study my photos as ask – Did they have inner meaning? Were they correctly exposed? Were they sharp and did they deliver multiple levels of thinking?I’ve attached my three images… I would love to hear your critique!
