I’ve known Tom for many years, and he has more knowledge regarding photography than anyone I know.  He’s been involved with all aspects of photos.. from taking professional photos to owning a camera store and serving the public.    I’m glad I have such a resource today while we are experiencing such large shifts in technology and how that applies to photography!

As a professional photographer, I was very impressed with the quality of the course taught by Tom Borello. In the Darkroom course I was able to be updated on the modern procedures for the responsible use of chemicals as they relate to our environment. Also his review of noted photographers enabled me to enrich my own lectures about my peers. My evaluation of the class is excellent – in every category.

I took two photo classes with Tom before leaving on a trip to Africa. In his classes, he was able to teach us the overall operation of the cameras and how to maximize the features to take spectacular photos in varying light conditions. And he was able to do so with each of the students and their many varied cameras.

Without his instruction, I know that I would have come home frustrated and would not have returned with anyway near the quality of pictures. The classes were so well worth it! I had a friend from New York going on the same trip who was going to buy an extra lens for her camera. I ran it by Tom who was able to make a better suggestion, saving her hundreds of dollars.

Tom is so knowledgeable with photographic equipment and in all phases of photography. And he is so willing to help his students, even after the class. (He was able to help me with a damaged camera when I returned home.) I have had an excellent experience and I highly recommend Tom and his services.

Dear Tom, Thank you so much for your advice. I bought the camera you recommended for our trip to Africa. You saved me so much money, and the camera was compact and easy to carry. I’m so glad I didn’t buy a long, heavy expensive lens. Thank you so much.

I attended a group class through Marin Learn Community Education. Tom was very generous in accepting his students at their level of expertise and helping them become more proficient.
Tom helped me understand the limitations of digital cameras and how to manually set features so that those limitations are overcome.
I gave him a 5 out of 5 star rating.

I had the pleasure of having Tom Borello assist me with choosing the best camera for my situation. He helped me select the perfect camera plus he assisted with helping find the best place to purchase the camera.

Then we had one-on-one sessions where he showed me all the features and how to use them for my anticipated needs.  In particular, the use of exposure control and other techniques to account for shadowing in the canyon in which part of the picture is very bright while other areas are dark was particularly helpful.

Tom has a casual style of teaching and is intuitive about slowing down when things were going over my head. He clearly has a passion for photography and experience not only with all the latest cameras and how they work, but with photography in general.

I thought the class was invaluable and the tips you provided for digital cameras were well worth it!  I especially found your tips on ‘exposure compensation’, ‘live view’, ‘flash fill’ especially useful. I also liked your teaching style and found your explanations to be very clear. I come from the 35 MM film camera world and have not had a really good camera since my Olympus OM1. Through your class, I was able to reacquaint myself with the concepts of f-stop, depth of field, and shutter speed, and I’m delighted that I can now take photos with my new Canon SLR digital camera with the same confidence I had with my OM1 many years ago.

The Digital Photography 101 class with Tom was educational, engaging and fun! Tom is friendly, patient, and approachable and has an amazing pedigree. His experience from working with Ansel Adams to wedding photography to owning his own photo shop, contributed to Tom’s diverse photography experience. Tom put together a great program and was clear on objectives up front. I learned a lot, in only a few short classes, and noticed a measurable impact in my confidence using my digital camera and my photos. I strongly recommend the digital photography 101 class. I’ll personally be working with Tom again, on my own, in the future to select an upgraded camera and learn how to use it. I’m happy I’ve found such an a great resource and mentor for my new photography hobby!

As a complete technophobe, I nervously approached Tom Borello’s photo class, but Tom was great! After acquainting all his students with each one’s digital camera settings, he totally enthralled us with the aesthetics of good photography.
