The Decisive Moment …
The moment our desired image becomes reality and presents itself. We then shoot to capture our vision. For me in the case of animals it’s when they look at me. It could be the pole-vaulter clears the bar or the light strikes our subject or the baseball player gets the pie in the face or possibly the special moment of my child’s first steps.
Sometimes we must pause, breath withheld, as in a dream that has stopped for our vision to materialize.
The decisive moment can be the final step in the classis photo visualization process or be the part of the critical spontaneous talent of the classic street photographer like David S. Johnson. Either way it’s our prize, our summit, and our success as photographers.
